I’ve been thinking about what I learnt a few weeks ago when I was sharing poetry with folk at the Hospice UK Conference in Liverpool. It was such a privilege to be there and spend time discussing the value and role of poetry in health care. What struck me most was how important it is for busy professionals to find time for themselves and pay attention to how they are feeling and the emotional barometer in the moment. I loved listening and paying attention to what folk were willing to share and I find myself energised and responsive each time. I haven’t got an encyclopaedic knowledge of the poems out there but I do have my “go to” poets that speak to me when I am in need to reflection and nourishment. Being able to share that was wonderful and I am realy grateful to have had the opportunity and am quite convinced that it has a role in professional development and supervision.
